Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley welcomed supporters, families, friends and a special appearance from Father Christmas, as it hosted its much-loved annual Christmas celebration.
The Emmaus Community Christmas Celebration, held on Saturday 15 November inside the charity’s bustling second-hand Superstore, brought the community together for a day filled with live music, festive food, family activities and plenty of seasonal shopping.
Niall, one of the people currently supported by Emmaus Mossley, said the day was nothing short of magical: “It was an amazing day! The atmosphere, the people, the customers, the volunteers, the brass band and Santa, all made it a fantastic event. When it got to the end of the day, I was still full of energy because it was such a great day.”
Emmaus Mossley provides a home, meaningful work, companionship and tailored support for people who have experienced homelessness. Events like the Christmas celebration not only bring joy to the local community but also raise vital funds that help sustain these services throughout the year.
The charity receives donations of festive items, clothing and unused gifts all year round, placing them in store from November. Thanks to the success of the event, the superstore has now been fully restocked with a wide selection of affordable Christmas decorations, trees, lights, gifts and stocking fillers.
Retail Manager Hazel Hodkinson expressed her gratitude to everyone who joined in the festivities: “I am very grateful to everyone who attended and supported this year’s Emmaus Community Christmas Celebration. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day, celebrating the importance of community, kindness and togetherness.”
She added that those who missed the event can still shop sustainably in the run-up to Christmas: “We’re restocking our store regularly and there are lots of amazing Christmas items and presents waiting to be discovered. If you’re keen to shop kind, or have sustainability in mind this Christmas, I’d encourage you to visit our second-hand Superstore over the coming weeks.”
Emmaus Mossley provides a stable home and tailored support for up to 26 people at any one time, helping them rebuild confidence, learn new skills and gain work experience. Every purchase from the second-hand Superstore directly supports people on their journey out of homelessness.
