The Ashton school has received a “strong” judgement for achievement under Ofsted’s new inspection framework.
Holden Clough Primary School has been praised for its high standards of education and strong pupil achievement following its latest Ofsted inspection. Inspectors visited the school on March 24 under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, which was introduced nationally in November 2025.
The school received a “strong” judgement for achievement, while meeting expected standards across all other inspection areas. According to the school, Holden Clough is currently the only primary school in Tameside to achieve a “strong” judgement in any inspection area under the revised framework.
The report highlighted pupils’ academic progress, particularly at the end of Key Stage 2, where attainment in reading, writing and mathematics is above national averages. Inspectors also praised pupils’ positive attitudes to learning, their engagement in lessons and the warm, trusting relationships between staff and children.
The report described Holden Clough as a school where pupils feel safe, valued and supported, adding that “a love of learning permeates the school.” Headteacher Adam Porter said: “We are incredibly proud of this report and of what it says about our pupils, staff and whole school community.
“The new Ofsted framework has raised expectations significantly, so achieving a strong judgement for achievement is a real testament to the hard work and care shown every day by both staff and pupils. This report truly belongs to them.”
Inspectors also noted the school’s safeguarding culture, inclusive approach and effective support for pupils with additional needs. Parents’ views were described as highly positive, with Ofsted recognising the strength of parental support for the school.
Holden Clough Primary School is part of Victorious Academies Trust. Karen Burns, CEO of Victorious Academies Trust, said: “This is an excellent and well-deserved outcome for Holden Clough. “Achieving a positive judgement under the new framework reflects the commitment of the staff and leadership team and the impact of effective collaboration across the Trust.
“Most importantly, it shows that pupils are thriving academically, socially and emotionally. We are delighted with this recognition and look forward to supporting the school as it continues to go from strength to strength.”
The report also recognises the school’s ambition to continue improving, with leaders already taking steps to further strengthen writing opportunities and build pupils’ resilience.
