Guide Bridge Theatre has announced that Mark Llewellin DL, the newly appointed High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, has accepted the role of official Patron of the community venue.
A familiar figure across Tameside for more than 30 years, Mr Llewellin brings with him a wealth of experience spanning professional theatre, broadcasting and charitable work. His appointment comes at an exciting time for the Audenshaw-based theatre as it celebrates its 2026 season.
Mr Llewellin began his career as an actor before moving into arts management, where he served as Marketing and Business Development Director at Oldham Coliseum Theatre. Alongside this, he has built a reputation as a published author, broadcaster and speaker, particularly known for his work exploring the history of Coronation Street and British variety theatre.
Sue Holden, a volunteer at Guide Bridge Theatre, welcomed the appointment. She said: “Mark has been a steadfast supporter of Guide Bridge Theatre for a number of years, often hosting fundraising talks for us.
“To have someone of his standing - especially during his year as High Sheriff - as our Patron is a huge honour for us and we are delighted that he agreed to accept this role. His passion for keeping local theatre alive is exactly what we need to inspire our volunteers and audiences.”
In his new role, Mr Llewellin will act as an ambassador for the theatre, championing the importance of community venues and their contribution to Greater Manchester’s cultural life.
Speaking about becoming Patron, he said: “I have lived in Tameside for three decades and have always admired the dedication of the team at Guide Bridge. Community theatre is where so many find their voice and where the magic of live performance is kept accessible.
“I am thrilled to officially join the GBT family and look forward to supporting their fantastic work.”
