Greswell Primary and Nursery School is celebrating a major milestone with the grand opening of its brand-new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) playground, an inspiring outdoor space designed to spark imagination, creativity, and a love for learning.
The school has expressed huge gratitude to everyone involved in the fundraising efforts that helped bring the project to life. Thanks to their support, the youngest pupils are already enjoying a transformational area that blends adventure and education.
Children wasted no time exploring the new facilities, happily describing the playground as “awesome, cool, amazing, big and exciting, great, fun!” Their enthusiasm mirrors the wide range of features now available, including a sandpit, fire pit, climbing frame, role-play shop and a mini amphitheatre complete with stage seating, ideal for imaginative performances and storytelling.
But this new space is more than just entertaining. The playground has been carefully designed to enhance early development in multiple ways. It will support physical skills through climbing and active play, boost cognitive growth with opportunities for problem-solving and creativity, promote social and emotional development as children collaborate and communicate, improve mental well-being by encouraging outdoor activity and interaction with nature, foster independence and safe risk-taking to build confidence and encourage environmental awareness and respect for the natural world.
Headteacher John Cooper shared his delight at seeing the project come to fruition: “We are delighted to provide our children with a space that combines fun and learning. This playground will play a vital role in their growth and development. We would like to thank the Ambition Community Trust for providing significant funding to help provide this amazing outdoor area.”
