A much-loved Ashton-under-Lyne social hub has celebrated a remarkable milestone, honouring two long-standing members for their unwavering loyalty and dedication spanning half a century.
Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club recently paid tribute to Harry Marshall and Mark Hilton, who have each reached an incredible 50 years of membership. The pair first joined the club back in 1976, a year remembered for major moments in British history, including James Callaghan becoming Prime Minister following Harold Wilson’s resignation, and Brotherhood of Man topping the charts with their Eurovision-winning hit “Save Your Kisses for Me.”
To mark the occasion, the club hosted a special presentation evening attended by fellow members and friends. The celebration featured live entertainment from singer Chrissy Kane, alongside a delicious hot pie supper that added to the warm and festive atmosphere.
During the evening, Chairman Leon Tamcken presented Harry and Mark with commemorative certificates and a whiskey gift set, recognising their longstanding commitment to the club. He thanked both men for their loyalty and the role they have played in helping to sustain the club’s strong sense of community over the decades.
