Girlguiding Ashton Division appeals for volunteers to keep local units running

Girlguiding leaders in Ashton Division are appealing for more volunteers to step forward and help support local units, ensuring hundreds of girls across the area can continue to enjoy the opportunities the organisation provides.

The division says it urgently needs new leaders, helpers and volunteers to support its thriving groups across Ashton.

Volunteering with Girlguiding can take many forms, and organisers say people can contribute whatever time they are able to give. Even a small amount of time can make a huge difference to the lives of girls and young women in the community.

In return, volunteers can gain a range of benefits including learning new skills, meeting like-minded people and taking part in memorable experiences alongside the girls they support.

Several units in the area are currently in particular need of additional volunteers to help keep sessions running. These include the 8th Ashton (Christ Church) Brownie Unit, 6th Ashton Guide Unit, 6th Ashton Brownie Unit, 40th Ashton (Holden Clough) Brownie Unit, and 13th Droylsden (St Martin’s) Brownie Unit.

Ashton Division is home to many other active units providing activities and opportunities for girls of different ages, including:

  • 12th Ashton (Hurst Methodist) Brownie Unit
  • 1st Ashton District 1 Ranger Unit
  • 3rd Higher Openshaw (Wheler St Moravians) Brownie Unit
  • 3rd Higher Openshaw (Wheler St Moravians) Guide Unit
  • 3rd Higher Openshaw (Wheler St Moravians) Ranger Unit
  • 40th Ashton (Holden Clough) Rainbow Unit
  • 5th Droylsden (St Mary’s) Rainbow Unit
  • 5th Droylsden (St Mary’s) Brownie Unit
  • 6th Ashton Rainbow Unit
  • 7th Ashton (Christ Church) Guide Unit
  • 7th Ashton (Christ Church) Rainbow Unit
  • 9th Ashton Brownie Unit
  • 9th Ashton Guide Unit
  • 9th Ashton Rainbow Unit

Through its Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Ranger sections, Girlguiding offers girls the chance to build confidence, try new activities and develop lifelong friendships.

Anyone interested in helping out – whether as a regular leader or occasional helper – is encouraged to find their nearest unit and learn more about getting involved via the Girlguiding website.

Organisers say that by volunteering, local people can play a vital role in ensuring the next generation of girls in Tameside continue to benefit from the experiences and opportunities Girlguiding provides.
