Firefighters worked through the night to bring a blaze at an industrial estate under control.
Residents living near the fire on Cromwell Road, Bredbury, were told to keep their windows and doors closed as smoke spread from the scene.
The fire broke out at around midnight.
In a post on X at around 2.15am, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are in attendance at a fire involving a commercial unit on Cromwell Road, Bredbury in Stockport. Nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area."
The fire was finally extinguished this morning but the road remains closed to traffic.
