Final two weeks to have your say on IVF services

Tameside residents are being urged to share their views on proposed changes to NHS-funded IVF services before a public consultation closes on Thursday 29th July.

NHS Greater Manchester is reviewing how IVF is offered across the region, with a proposal to standardise access so that eligible women aged 39 and under can receive one NHS-funded IVF cycle, with a second attempt if the first is cancelled. Currently, the number of funded cycles varies by borough.

More than 1,000 people have already responded, but local voices are still needed—especially as some have raised concerns, calling for at least two or even three funded cycles in line with clinical guidance.

The consultation does not propose any changes for women aged 40 to 42, who continue to be eligible for one NHS-funded cycle under national rules.

Dr Claire Lake, deputy chief medical officer at NHS Greater Manchester, said: “We’ve already heard from over a thousand people and we’re incredibly grateful for every response, but there’s still time to have your say. IVF is a hugely important issue for many individuals and families and we want to make sure as many voices as possible help shape a fairer, more consistent approach across Greater Manchester. Whether you’ve experienced IVF yourself or simply care about access to NHS fertility treatment, please take a few minutes to share your views before the consultation closes.”
