Tram passengers are being warned to expect disruption in the city centre for the next two weekends, as one Metrolink line closes for two days.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has named the dates of the latest closures in a £150m programme of maintenance work.
Bee Network chiefs say no trams will run between St Peter’s Square and Market Street or Piccadilly Gardens on Sunday (August 31) as tram tracks will be replaced on Moseley Street.
And an entire Metrolink line will close the following weekend, it’s been confirmed.
No trams will run between Ashton-under-Lyne and Piccadilly Gardens from Friday, September 5, to Sunday, September 7.
Replacement buses will serve the 14 stops affected by the closure.
The work has been scheduled for a weekend when Manchester City’s men’s and women’s teams are not playing at the Etihad campus, and no events are set for Co-op Live.
The only major event taking place in the city centre during the weekends of disruption is master’s football at the AO Arena on Friday, September 5.
No further engineering works are planned for 2025, according to Danny Vaughan, TfGM Chief Network Officer.
He said: “This is the final piece of this year’s planned track replacement programme, and we would like to thank everyone for bearing with us while these essential upgrades have been carried out.
“Metrolink is the largest light rail network in the country and forms a key part of the Bee Network, with our trams carrying 46 million passenger journeys last year alone.
“As more people choose to get on board the Bee Network, it’s important we continue to invest in our tram system to keep it safe, reliable and accessible for years to come.”
