A Tameside homelessness charity is inviting the community to step into a world of pre-loved style this autumn with a fashion event designed to challenge the culture of fast fashion.
Emmaus Mossley will host its Thread Revolution on the evening of Thursday 9th October, showcasing sustainable fashion alternatives at its Second-hand Superstore in Longlands Mill.
The immersive event will see models take to the stage in curated outfits featuring second-hand and vintage pieces, highlighting how pre-loved fashion can be stylish, affordable, and eco-friendly. Guests will then have the opportunity to browse and buy from exclusive rails of women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Alongside the runway, the evening will feature a live DJ, refreshments from the on-site café, and a chance to learn more about the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion.
Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness, offering a home, tailored support, companionship, and meaningful work opportunities. Funds raised from the event will go towards supporting its ongoing work.
Molly Ridgway, Retail Assistant at Emmaus Mossley, said: “This year’s fashion show will have a bit of a twist. Our Thread Revolution event will not only entertain our supporters but also raise awareness about the huge impact fast fashion is presenting to both charity shops and society as a whole. The evening will be fun and engaging, inspiring people to see the many benefits of being thrifty and shopping pre-loved.”
The show promises to include designer labels and carefully selected vintage garments in a range of styles and sizes. Guests will also be encouraged to discover “hidden gems” among the quality donations that Emmaus Mossley receives daily.
Retail Manager Hazel Hodkinson added: “Here at Emmaus, we receive lots of quality donations of clothing but there are challenges that all charity shops are facing. Second-hand doesn’t mean second best and there are more affordable and conscious alternatives to fast-fashion. This event will celebrate the role everyone can play by shopping more ethically whilst supporting local good causes.”
Thread Revolution takes place at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley, OL5 9AH, on Thursday 9 October from 6:00pm. Tickets are £5 each and available in advance from the Second-hand Superstore or via Eventbrite.
