Talented crafters are celebrating after knitting up more than £12,000 in the last year for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Members of the Charity Crafters Group have raised £12,495 for the society since first clubbing together.
The group was the brainchild of Angie Wild who initially offered a few ladies the opportunity to come together and be part of a friendly group to combat loneliness.
But ever since the growing band of ladies, who meet monthly at the Seraphina Centre in Ashton, have let their knitting needles do the talking.
Their incredible creations have been sold at a variety of fundraising events and also on their Facebook page, with every penny they make being donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.
The talented ladies knit and create everything from toys and seasonal themed items and more. Their Easter chicks proved an amazing hit with the knitted birds flying off the shelves. The crafters won’t be stopping any time soon either, with Christmas next on the cards.
Angie said: “We set up last year to create a friendly group to bring people together and tackle loneliness, but we wanted to be more than just a knitting or craft group, and decided every penny we raise from any knitted items or crafts sold will go to the Alzheimer’s Society. The sum raised so far is just fantastic.
“I am not a knitter, but we have got some really talented crafters.
“If there are any ladies that would like to join us who can’t craft, then that doesn’t matter, as they are more than welcome to come and join us still at the Seraphina Centre and make new friends, as that’s what it’s all about.”
The next big fundraising effort though is for Christmas.
“The ladies have been really, really busy making little angels, crocheting and knitting and we will be having a stall to sell our hand crafted items at Denton’s Victoria Park Community Centre on December 7,” added Angie.
The group meets on the first and third Monday of the month at the Seraphina Centre in Ashton between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
