Angela Rayner, MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, paid a visit to Tesco in Droylsden this week to meet the volunteers supporting the supermarket’s annual Winter Food Collection, which helps provide vital supplies for local people facing hardship during the colder months.
Each year, Tesco teams up with the charities FareShare and the Trussell Trust to run the nationwide collection, encouraging shoppers to donate tins, cans and long-life items. Donations made at the Droylsden store will go directly to the Droylsden & District Foodbank, supporting families and individuals across the community.
During her visit, Angela spoke with volunteers and thanked them for their commitment, including pupils from Laurus Ryecroft who gave their time to help collect and organise donations.
“It was great to see true community spirit in action,” Angela said. “Thank you to all the volunteers – especially the pupils from Laurus Ryecroft – and to everyone who made a donation.”
The Winter Food Collection will continue throughout the season, with organisers encouraging anyone able to spare an item or two to support the effort and help ensure no one in the local area goes without this winter.
