Eight groups received sums of up to £2,000 when Tameside Community Safety held their grants event of 2025 on 13 May.
Covering the borough’s east neighbourhood (Dukinfield, Stalybridge and Mossley) it took place at Old Chapel, Dukinfield. The decisions on who should get money were made by the 60 people who attended.
They listened to a presentation by each group and then voted to decide which should be successful.
The winners were: Dukinfield: 2nd Dukinfield Scouts and Patient Network Group Dukinfield. Stalybridge: Empowered to Thrive, The Power of Resilience, Great Live Adventures. Mossley: Friends of the Vale, Mossley Monday Club, Andrew Street Pond Association.
To qualify for funding, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: Activities that reduce harmful behaviour, improving environmental resilience and challenges, and empowering communities to transform lives.
The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Betty Affleck, opened the event. Cllr Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s executive member for towns and communities, expressed his thanks to all the groups and people who give their time freely to make Tameside a better place to live.
Cllr Homer said: “All the groups did a great job in presenting their project and thoroughly deserved their funding. The talks were inspirational and I know I can look forward to more of the same at the other events.
“The comments we got from the people attending were extremely positive. One person said it was a humbling evening full of inspiration. Another described it as heart-warming with all the groups full of passion and emotion.
“I’m delighted we were able to help such worthwhile groups with the excellent work they do.”
Lifeline Community Ambulance volunteered to provide first aid services.
