A major step forward in Ashton’s regeneration has been confirmed, as community group “Make Ashton Great Again” secures full ownership of Clarence Arcade after a year of negotiations.
The site, previously split in two, was partially saved last year when the group acquired 31 Clarence Arcade, preventing its conversion into an HMO. Now, with the entire arcade under one ownership, plans are in place to transform it into a vibrant indoor shopping destination.
The redevelopment will see the buildings unified, creating a 76-unit arcade featuring a mix of independent traders and national brands. Units will be offered at affordable, all-inclusive rents, aimed at supporting new and creative businesses.
In addition to retail, the space will host cafés, offices, and community events, including the popular Yanks event in August.
Andy Kleek, owner of Make Ashton Great Again, said the project will restore a “heartbeat” to the town, with more regeneration plans expected to follow.
