It was a day of joy and celebration at Charnley House Care Home in Hyde on Friday 31st October, as family, residents and staff came together to mark the 102nd birthday of Rose Duggan.

Rose, who moved to Charnley House in October last year, was joined by fellow residents, staff, and family for a lively afternoon of music, laughter, and, of course, cake. The celebrations included a special performance from a local singer, who treated everyone to classic hits from the 1960s, prompting plenty of dancing and smiles all around.

Before moving into Charnley House, Rose lived independently in Haughton Green, where she spent most of her life. It was only after a water infection that the family made the decision to move Rose so she could carry on socialising instead of being in the same room. She worked as a secretary before retiring when her granddaughter was born, to help take care of her.

When asked about the secret to a long and happy life, Rose had some simple but timeless advice: “Don’t worry and be nice to everyone.”

Rose also fondly recalls her love of tea dances, which she enjoyed for many years, and her positive spirit continues to shine through at Charnley House, where she has quickly become a much-loved member of the community.

The home’s team said it was a privilege to celebrate such a remarkable milestone with Rose, who continues to inspire everyone with her kindness, humour, and zest for life.

Rose was joined by her granddaughter and her great grandchildren who spent the afternoon celebrating with her.
