A well-deserved celebration event was held to mark 50 years of dedicated Greenspace Volunteers in Tameside.
The Greenspace Team arranged a celebration event for the Volunteers at Portland Basin on, 11 June, to celebrate the milestone.
Over the past five decades, they have played a valuable role, working alongside Tameside Council’s Greenspace team to help maintain, preserve, and enhance greenspaces and biodiversity across the borough. Between 2025 and 2026, they contributed over 2000 days of their time.
The afternoon included appreciation speeches and long service awards, recognising volunteers who have contributed for 10, 20 and even 30 years.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Laura Boyle, said: “It is great that we have the opportunity to celebrate and thank our fantastic Greenspace Volunteers, especially as we mark 50 years of their dedication. They make such a valuable contribution to Tameside, and it’s wonderful to be able to show our appreciation for all that they do.”
