Many may think of George Clooney when it comes to handsome George’s around Valentine’s Day, but the team at Dogs Trust Manchester only has eyes for one George, and it isn’t the famous film star.
The team at the Denton-based rehoming centre is besotted with ‘gorgeous George’, as he has become known. The ten-year-old Mastiff-Cross is the largest dog at the centre currently looking for a home, and the team says he has a whole lot of love to give to a family who have room in their heart – and their home – for the gentle giant.
George originally arrived at Dogs Trust five years ago and lived happily in a home, but due to a change in his family’s circumstances, three years later he found himself back at Dogs Trust, and he’s been waiting ever since for his special someone.
Rebecca Smith, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust Manchester, said: “George is all the g’s - gorgeous, gentle and a true gentleman. He is really lovely and walks beautifully on the lead, unless he finds a particularly good sniffing spot.
"After a potter about, he loves nothing more than cuddling up with his humans, and he’d fit really well into family life as he’s so friendly. He’d happily share his home with children of secondary school age, as long as they are willing to share their sofa with him when it’s cuddle time.”
Most dogs stay in the care of Dogs Trust for around 60 days, but larger dogs take longer to rehome on average than smaller and medium dogs and George is considered an ‘Underdog’ by the charity as he has been waiting for his special someone for more than six months.
Now the team hopes that as Valentine’s Day approaches, George finally finds the loving family he deserves.
Rebecca added “George would like to be the only dog in his owners’ lives so he can lap up all the love. It would be the best Valentine’s ever if George followed in the smaller paw prints of the canine companions we have said goodbye to since he arrived. He has such a big heart and so much love to give.”
