Friends of Hadfield Hall were celebrating as work started to install a long-awaited lift.
This will provide access to the library and upper hall, where the library steps and steep stairs have made access difficult, if not impossible, for some users.
Friends of Hadfield Hall had already set up a 'Give us a Lift' fund when they applied to the National Lottery in 2019 for the large sum of money needed to make the scheme a reality.
Fortunately they were successful in their application, but lockdown and further delays followed, meaning that the project was on hold for far longer than expected.
The building has been designed by Grundy Architecture, with installation by James Lazenby Construction Ltd. Completion of the project is expected in the spring.
Once up and running, the lift will enable easier access to the many regular classes and events, including the popular Hadfield Art Show, which has been taking place there for some time.
