Baton of Hope to bring message of courage and unity to Tameside

The countdown is on for one of the most powerful and unifying events in our region’s calendar.

On Friday, 12th September 2025, The Anthony Seddon Fund will proudly bring the Baton of Hope to Tameside, carrying with it a message of courage, compassion, and collective action in the face of suicide.

Part of a nationwide movement, the Baton’s journey is deeply symbolic. It will be carried through our community by people whose lives have been touched by suicide, mental health challenges, and a steadfast determination to make a difference. This is not simply a procession. It is a rallying call — a moment to stand together, speak openly, and shine a light on hope.

As the date draws nearer, preparations are gathering pace. Local organisations, schools, community groups, and families are joining forces to ensure the Baton’s passage through Tameside is marked with dignity, purpose, and heartfelt solidarity.

“We’re proud to be part of this national movement,” said Ben James, General Manager at The Anthony Seddon Fund. “The Baton of Hope is a symbol of our shared commitment to saving lives, breaking stigma, and building a future where no one feels alone.”

You can expect community-led events and tributes along the Baton’s route, inspiring stories of resilience and recovery shared by local people, resources and support for those affected by suicide and a closing event at Stalybridge Civic Hall featuring information stalls and live music.
