Mark Wilmott
From Monday 26th August onwards, our artist of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature is Mark Wilmott. Playing music started as a hobby for Mark, but quickly turned into an obsession. As a young man, he spent countless nights honing his craft on the guitar, heavily influenced by the Britpop movement.
The burning desire to start a band consumed Mark, and after much introspection and soul-searching, his band The Deeds were formed in 2001. Though the band were short-lived, the band had many good times, ending with a memorable gig at Manchester's Jabez Clegg before the band went their separate ways.
Mark went on to continue in music, performing intimate acoustic sets in the heart of Manchester. Through the years, he experimented with different projects, each a stepping stone on his musical journey. But it was during the Covid-19 Lockdown he found his real passion for music again, and he was back in the music world, as Mark Wilmott, a singer and songwriter driven by an insatiable drive to create.
He is influenced by the likes of The Fall, Sleaford Mods, Jesus and Mary Chain and UNKLE. His debut album 'Don't Destroy What You've Created' will be released on September 11th, an album he describes as 'a testament to my unwavering dedication and love for music' He told us how he has poured his heart and soul into every note, every lyric, and every beat, and we can't wait to hear it.
Mark Wilmott and his music will be played on every daytime show on Tameside Radio from 6am on Monday 26th August. He also joined the team on The Dave Sweetmore Show on Monday 19th August, you can listen again via the OnDemand section of the website.
