A young fundraiser from Denton has hiked up the highest mountain in Wales to raise funds for homelessness charity, Emmaus Mossley.
On Saturday, 19 September, seven-year-old Freddie and his family successfully completed their sponsored walk up Snowdon. Freddie wanted to do a challenge to help people affected by homelessness and has so far raised more than £1,100 for Emmaus Mossley.
Freddie commented: “I really enjoyed doing Snowdon, especially all the climbing. It was easy and I want to do another big mountain next year. It makes me sad to see homeless people and I wanted to help in any way I could.”
Prior to the walk, Freddie visited Emmaus Mossley, a local charity that helps to empower people to overcome homelessness for good. Whilst resident at Emmaus, each person is supported to build their confidence, self-esteem, skills, and work experience to achieve their goals.
Freddie’s mum, Kirsty, added: “The weather was awful but we did it and it was all for a great cause. Freddie was amazing – he was in front helping everyone along and he can’t wait to do the next one.”
Emmaus Mossley’s residential community provides a home and tailored support for up to 26 people at any one time. Funds raised from Freddie’s challenge will go towards the charity’s plans to improve the community building and facilities.
Ant Hopkinson, Chief Executive Officer at Emmaus Mossley, said: “We’re all enormously grateful to Freddie and his family, not only for the money they’ve raised, but for the kindness and determination behind it.
“If Freddie’s story has inspired you to take on a challenge of your own, we’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s a walk, run, cycle, bake sale or something completely different, there are lots of ways you can fundraise for Emmaus Mossley and help us continue supporting local people to rebuild their lives after homelessness.”
