Police are urging residents to be vigilant after con artists have been posing as employees from the water board in Tameside, targeting elderly people in particular.
Greater Manchester Police said they have been made aware of such incidents across the borough.
"Please remember to remain vigilant, ask for identification and try to have pre planned appointments from services," GMP's Tameside South and West team have said.
People should report any suspicious behaviour to police by calling 101 or reporting it online at https://www.gmp.police.uk/. Incidents can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
You should always dial 999 in the case of an emergency.
