Tameside College recently had the honour of hosting the WorldSkills UK National Finals, a significant event that brought together the nation's top students and apprentices to compete in various skill disciplines. The competitions, held on November 15th and 16th, showcased exceptional talent in automotive and engineering sectors.

The WorldSkills UK competitions are designed by industry experts to develop participants' technical and employability skills. Research by Frontier Economics indicates that involvement in these competitions can lead to a substantial salary boost, with participants earning around 60% more than their peers who have not taken part.

Jackie Moores, Principal and CEO of Tameside College, expressed her delight: "We are thrilled to have hosted the WorldSkills UK National Finals at Tameside College. Our institution has a strong tradition in both hosting and participating in skills competitions across Greater Manchester, the UK, and Europe. This autumn, we welcomed back two students who competed at EuroSkills in Gdansk, and three more have qualified for the WorldSkills UK National Finals."

The event also garnered attention from regional leaders. Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, commented: "We are working hard in Greater Manchester to create opportunities for young people to develop high-level technical skills. WorldSkills UK, along with the idea of a Greater Manchester Baccalaureate for technical education, are helping us achieve our ambitious plans to ensure young people in the city-region are given the tools they need to achieve their career aspirations."

The winners of the competitions were announced at a ceremony held at Bridgewater Hall on November 17th. The event not only celebrated the achievements of the participants but also highlighted the importance of technical education in driving economic growth and providing young people with valuable career opportunities.
