A councillor has advised residents hit by the tornado to contact their insurance companies as soon as possible.
Stalybridge Conservative councillor Liam Billington said: "The council have responded very well, very quickly to this last night, they were straight on the scene with the emergency services.
"They are going around now clearing the debris up and that is one of the priorities to make sure properties are secure and safe and also that roads are clear.
"It's going to take a couple of days and there will be some disruption so we are just asking people for a bit of patience.
"My advice to people would be, in the first instance, to go to their insurers or to their landlord who will have buildings insurance on the property and make sure you are safe
