Side‑alley kitchen beside terraced house stuns Tameside with 5‑Star rating

In a narrow side alley beside a terraced house in Stalybridge, a community kitchen is changing lives— feeding the hungry, training volunteers, and now smashing expectations with a 5‑star food hygiene rating.

The Power of Resilience isn’t just serving food. Volunteers walk in nervous, lost, or low on confidence — and walk out with skills, pride, and purpose. They’re learning to cook, mastering safety, and discovering they matter, all while dishing up hot meals to those who arrive cold, hungry, or carrying heartbreak.

On an initial visit, inspectors suggested significant improvements, the call for help went out and Tameside stepped up. A local group raised £400 and an engineering firm donated a splashback, alongside a generous donation from an anonymous donor.

Now the kitchen is levelling up again with free summer cooking sessions for adults and kids. Families will learn together. Volunteers are becoming mentors.

Executive Director Julie Mallinson says the kitchen stands for “connection, dignity, hope, and the strength of community.”

From a forgotten side alley to a 5‑star powerhouse of compassion this kitchen isn’t just feeding people. It’s rebuilding lives.
