Police were called to Castle Street, Stalybridge at 10.30pm on Thursday 8 July after a man was reported to have collapsed.
A man in his 70s was taken to hospital and remains there in a serious but stable condition.
Initial enquiries suggest the man may have suffered a medical episode and a scene is in place to further clarify the circumstances of the incident.
No arrests have been made and an investigation continues.
