Person pronounced dead on railway tracks at Ashton station

Police are at Ashton railway station after reports of a body found on the tracks this afternoon.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene, although their age and whether they were a man or woman has not been revealed.

Paramedics received reports of the casualty after 2.30pm

A tent was put up on the tracks but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Train services between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge were suspended as emergency crews responded to the incident.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
