Neighbourhood pride and appreciation celebrated with help of Eco Streets project

Residents are enjoying transformed streets and alleyways, featuring colourful mosaic house numbers, improved waste and recycling management, and community vegetable planters.

Tameside Council collaborated with Groundwork Greater Manchester to deliver the fantastic pilot Eco Streets project last year, starting in Hyde and Ashton-under-Lyne.

On Wednesday 26 August, teams returned to the neighbourhoods to follow up with the residents involved. They discussed how residents have found the improvements, what is working well, and any areas where further support may be needed.

Teams found the project was very well received, with residents being active in maintaining the spaces, building on the initial improvements and adding their own personal touches.

The day brought residents together to reflect on the project’s success, install the newly designed mosaic house numbers, and carry out some small upkeep of the shared spaces.

The project has proven successful in creating greener, safer communities for residents to enjoy.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environments and Greenspace, Cllr Laura Boyle said: “It’s great to see how well residents have cared for these spaces and built on the improvements made in their neighbourhoods. Projects like this are so important in bettering our neighbourhoods and creating communities that residents can take pride in and enjoy”
