Fire service issues warning after grass blaze in Stalybridge

Two fire crews and a wildfire unit battled a grass fire near Carrbrook in Stalybridge for three hours on Sunday afternoon (13 June).

The teams from Ashton and Stalybridge responded to two separate seats of fire - the first approximately 2,500 square metres and the second approximately 100 square metres. 

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is once again reminding the public to act responsibly when enjoying the great outdoors. 

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Crews used scotty water packs and beaters to extinguish the fire. We would urge residents to be careful if they are out and about enjoying the nice weather. 

"Fires can spread incredibly quickly when it is hot and dry and can destroy acres of countryside and wildlife habitats. Our advice is to never have a barbecue or start a campfire on the moors."
