A resident supported by homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley has set his sights on a career in the fire service after successfully completing a 12-week personal development programme.
25-year-old Kobe completed The King’s Trust Team programme delivered by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Kobe and his fellow Team members took part in the course at Hyde Fire Station, gaining skills, qualifications and experience to support their career goals.
Kobe commented: “I really enjoyed the programme and glad I got it done! The thing I enjoyed most was the residential – 100% – but the firefighter experience days were probably the most useful because I want to go into the fire service.
“Meeting the Assistant Chief Fire Officer at the final presentation was really good and he had some great advice for my next steps into the fire service. I loved every bit of the Team programme and would definitely recommend it to anyone else who wants to do it.”
The King’s Trust Team programme is a way for 16 to 25 year olds to develop skills, gain qualifications, build confidence and meet new people. Alongside training and career development, participants complete a week-long outdoor activities residential, a two-week work placement and community project.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service delivers The King's Trust Team programme across the city region. Courses run throughout the year from five fire stations – Manchester Central, Hyde, Stockport (Whitehill), Bolton and Oldham.

Kobe is a resident at Emmaus Mossley, a charity that helps to empower people to overcome homelessness for good. Whilst at Emmaus, each person is supported to build their confidence, self-esteem, skills and work experience to achieve their goals.
