A new clubhouse will be built to replace the ‘outdated’ building at Denton West Cricket Club.
This redevelopment would see a new two-storey pavilion built in the same spot as the current clubhouse. The first floor would include a club lounge, players’ lounge, servery, kitchen, cellar, accessible WC and an accessible changing room.
The first floor would comprise the changing rooms as well as a viewing terrace that overlooks the cricket pitch. Also included in the plans for the Windsor Road sports club is a replacement scoring hut and improvements to the existing car park to create 34 car parking bays.
The clubhouse is around 40 years old and is no longer fit for purpose to cater for their membership of more than 400 people, according to the club.
Planning papers read: “The existing pavilion, although well-used, is outdated, inefficient and no longer capable of supporting the club’s current membership, matchday crowds or community functions. Issues include poor spatial layout, limited changing provision, inadequate storage and inefficiencies in the building fabric and services.
“The proposal aims to deliver a modern, accesssible and energy-efficient facility that meets Sport England and ECB requirements, strengthens community use and supports the long-term sustainability of the club.”
Planning papers went on to describe how this redevelopment would help to future proof the club as a community asset. It is already a major player in the community, hosting their annual bonfire night fireworks display as well as other events throughout the year.
Tameside council’s planning team has approved the application, so building work can now start.
