A primary school in Denton has raised more than £2,500 in the memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore.
St Anne’s Primary School took part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge, which challenges people to raise money for their chosen charity on what would have been the national icon’s 101st birthday.
The pupils at the school rose to the challenge and performed a variety of activities to raise funds.
The reception class did 100 lengths of the yard while Year One flew 100 paper planes. Year Two did 100 burpee exercises, with Year Six carrying out 100 random acts of kindness.
The children chose the challenges themselves and headteacher Kirsty Rimmer said it was great to see them engaging with what was happening nationally.
“There were lots of different challenges, but all the children enjoyed taking part in this,” she said.
“They loved it, we had a really lovely day in school. Captain Tom was in the media and lots of our children were very aware of who he was.
“I think you can see by the funds that were raised lots of our parents thought it was a very worthy cause as well.
“We would normally do a sponsored walk at this time of year, but because of the Covid restrictions we thought we’d get involved with the Captain Tom fundraiser. We’re really thankful to all our parents and friends at St Anne’s who have supported this event.”
Money is still coming in and is well over the £2,500 mark. All monies collected will be donated to the Captain Tom Foundation.
