Cannabis farm discovered in Stalybridge

Greater Manchester Police response teams have discovered a large cannabis farm located at property in Stalybridge.

On Tuesday (21 April 2026), response officers from the Tameside Response team attended an address on Stayley Drive, Stalybridge, following a call from concerned housing association agent.

Upon entering the property, officers found cannabis plants in almost every room at various stages of their growth cycle, in addition to lighting equipment, fans, pipes, and other drug-growing paraphernalia.

The electricity was discovered to have been illegally bypassed, and work is ongoing to ensure it is safely disconnected.Between 150-200 cannabis plants with a street value of around £150,000 and £200,000 were seized by officers.

A scene is in place, with enquiries underway by local neighbourhood teams and Crime Scene Investigation officers.

Chief Inspector Philip Brown, from GMP’s Tameside district, said: “It’s Response Week and this one example of the varied and unpredictable incidents our response teams deal with every day.

“When attending any incident, our team’s main priority is identifying any threats to the public and nearby individuals, assess what risk the situation poses and identify any other vulnerabilities then engage the right partners.

“Drug production and supply are not victimless crimes. Disrupting this type of activity helps protect communities, reduce violence and prevent the exploitation of vulnerable people.
