A heartless vandal has destroyed a community book box in Mossley.
Hayley Griffiths, who set up the book swap scheme at the corner of Staley Road and Cemetery Road in Bottom Mossley, discovered that someone had smashed up the plastic box when she went to check on it.
But she has vowed to carry on with the community book swap scheme.
She said: “The big box was destroyed by someone so I’ve brought everything home and picked up all the plastic.
“It was all kicked in, luckily none of the books were damaged, but the box is destroyed.
“I’m not going to stop doing it though. I’ve had too many messages saying they’d be gutted to see it go. I’ll sort a new box and maybe start taking it home at night and back out in the morning.”
Hayley set up the swap box so the community could join in her love of reading.
She said: “I literally put a box of books on a bench and created a Facebook page so people can use it, it’s become quite popular.”
