The Old Street site has been vacant for years. There are now plans to transform the building’s first and second floors into four apartments, with a pub and restaurant below.
CRG Developments Limited, the company behind the plans, wants to rent out the new unit.
The entrance to the upper floors will be via a passage beside the building. A staircase will lead to two apartments on the first floor, each with two bedrooms.
Another two apartments – one with one bedroom and the other with two bedrooms – would be built on the second floor.
Planning papers read: “CRG Developments Limited are experienced property developers and landlords, and they have carried out other quality commercial and residential developments in the town centre including the provision of flats/apartments and houses of multiple occupation.
“They are proposing to invest significant resources into this development project, which will bring about economic, social and environmental benefits to Tameside.
“The proposal will enable a longstanding untidy empty mixed commercial and residential building in the town centre to be brought back into full use.”
