Women in Sport: Emma Finney's fitness obsession

For those of us who like to keep fit, there’s now a plethora of ways in which we can do so to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Personal trainers have been on the rise in recent years with more people searching for a tailored approach to fitness. Emma Finney has dedicated her life to help better the lives of others and continues to do this through her sessions.

“I take a personal approach to personal training and look to build my clients confidence through the sessions,” she says.

Having always loved fitness, Emma has ran for as long as she can remember. Racing for Sale Harriers, she has learnt vast amounts about running and now looks to share this with the younger generation.

“I also coach the U13 and U15 at Sale Harriers and run for the team myself. I love running, I’ve done everything from track running to marathons, I love the atmosphere of racing,” she says.

For Emma one of the most important things in regard to training is building a relationship with the client. She says she looks to offer a support network for those that she coaches and creates a programme that is best for them.

“I aim to find out what the client enjoys, what their goals are and the reason that they are training. I then can tailor an approach that suits them.

“With fitness it is 80% about nutrition and 20% exercise, so I am also available to offer nutritional help,” she says.

Emma currently runs her sessions in local parks, something which some of her clients enjoy due to the quietness of the area.

She is looking to have a facility in which she can train her clients in the future but currently attends Mossley parks regularly.

Emma also hosts a weekly fit camp, offering an alternative to a regular gym approach for those who are wanting to further their training.

As with everything, there is never a one size fits all approach and finding what suits you best can take some time.

Luckily, Tameside has some incredible facilities to accommodate all types of training, from cardio to strength building.

Emma is available to contact via her Instagram @emmafinneypt and her Facebook Emma Finney Personal Training.
