United View: Reds monitoring Summerville

The summer transfer window is now open, but we are no closer to knowing who United are planning to bring in ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

With the permanent appointment of Michael Carrick, the departure of Casemiro and The Reds qualifying for the Champions League, this summer’s window could prove to be one of the most important of the post-Ferguson era.

It’s clear that United are hoping to strengthen in midfield, but with Nottingham Forest slapping an eyewatering £120m price tag on Elliot Anderson, this likely means they will turn elsewhere.

West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes has been touted as a cheaper alternative, with The Hammers unlikely to be able to command a similar fee following their relegation.

Since leaving his native country of Portugal, where he was deemed surplus to requirements by then Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, the midfielder has shown he is more than capable of shining for a Premier League side.

The only issue for United is the price, with the East London side reportedly asking for upwards of £80m for his services.

But should the clubs agree on a fee closer to £60m, I think that would be a solid start to The Reds’ transfer business.

Elsewhere, Carrick’s side also have their eye on another member of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, having reportedly enquired about speedy winger Crysencio Summerville.

The forward is currently on international duty with the Netherlands, and has impressed so far for Ronald Koeman’s men, netting two goals in his opening two World Cup matches.

His arrival largely hangs on the future of Marcus Rashford, who may be set for an astonishing return to Old Trafford.

Should the forward be reintegrated into Michael Carrick’s squad, following last season’s loan at FC Barcelona, it would be difficult to see United moving for another wide player.
