Turkish Tyson ready for step up in class

Billy Deniz will face Mickey Ellison in Sheffield on Saturday night as he looks to extend his unbeaten start to life as a pro boxer.

The Droylsden light heavyweight comes into the bout on the back of 12 wins, the latest a rough and tumble encounter against Khalid Graidia at Barnsley FC’s Oakwell stadium in August.

The Turkish Tyson knocked his opponent down in the opening round that night, and although the French fighter rallied, Deniz won five of the six rounds.

Saturday night’s fight is on the undercard of Callum Simpson and Steed Woodall’s Commonwealth and British super middleweight title fight, co-headlined by Caroline Dubois taking on Canadian lightweight Jessica Camara.

Although he has lost three of his past four fights, Ellison is a step up in class for Deniz. Of those contests, the Darwen boxer gave good tests to Radivoje Kalajdzic, Lerrone Richards and Aaron McKenna, as well as outpointing journeyman Harry Matthews.

Deniz said: “I’m ready for the big stage and to show why I’m there.”

The event airs on Saturday January 11 from 7pm on Sky Sports.
