Curzon Ashton Juniors rallied around in team spirit during their charity cycle to support a very special girl.
In 2018, Pixie-Belle Sykes was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged just 5-years-old. She has battled chemotherapy for the last three years, endured four brain surgeries and has spent countless nights in a hospital bed.
Despite all this, the young superstar has now celebrated the end of her treatment and can now look forward to making memories with her family.
11-year-old Lucas Rhodes heard all about Pixie-Belle’s journey, playing football alongside her brother Zac Sykes.
As an ambassador for Curzon Ashton Juniors, he knew that he needed to continue to help the family as much as possible and decided to invite members of his team to support this vision.
In doing so, Lucas organised a charity cycle at the Community Cycle Circuit in Ashton and players from the U12 squad were beyond happy to join in.
The track was filled with energy during the Thursday (21 October) evening event when the team challenged each other to see how many laps of the track they could complete.
The star of the night, Pixie-Belle, even took part in the cycle, completing an amazing 12 laps.
Members of the first team, players Harry Flowers and Jack McKay as well as coach Jack Salkeld, also came on down to support the children and have fun on the track.
Parents and family members were on hand to keep count of the laps and see the smiling faces of their children as they passed.
The night was a huge success, and one which raised an incredible £410 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, who have worked tirelessly to deliver treatment to Pixie-Belle and so many other children.
The support has been breath-taking for parents Andy and Katie Sykes, who have also committed to raising valuable funds for the charity.
Young footballer Lucas has shown once again how important team spirit can be and, along with his mother Stephanie Owen, created an incredible opportunity to support a local family.
