Tameside Netball Club Host Men's Team In Christmas Cracker

Players representing Tameside Netball Club are usually accustomed to battling it out against the very best girls across the region.

However, for one game only, the girls went head-to-head with a group of men who are spearheading a change in perception on court.

Players from North West Spartans Netball Club, based in Stretford, Manchester, was formed in 2020 and has since grown from strength-to-strength.

A group of five men decided to form a side with a view to changing the preconceived idea that netball is a sport for girls, while also aiming to become the powerhouse of netball in the north west.

Wednesday evenings fixture, which took place at Fairfield High School in Droylsden, was dubbed as a post-Christmas friendly. However, the game itself was fiercely contested and gave both sets of players the chance to burn off the festive food in a fun and welcoming environment.

Tameside's North West Premier Squad, coached by Laura Chisnall, return to league action in January and make the trip to Capricorn. They are currently sixth in the table having played nine games this season.
