Redshaw set to stay after Roscoe and Spooner depart

Following the closure of the Northern Premier League season last month, Hyde United announced the departure of two stalwarts of their side. 

Firstly, midfielder Callum Spooner will be leaving the club to explore new pastures. 

The 26-year-old spent just over two seasons with The Tigers, in which he made over 100 appearances for the club, playing under dad Nick. 

He also captained the side at the back end of the 23/24 season, leading them to the Cheshire Senior Cup final where they defeated Crewe Alexandra on penalties to pick up the trophy.  

Speaking on his departure, Callum said: 

“I’d just like to announce that I have left Hyde United, it has been a great two years and I’d like to thank everyone associated with the club. 

“It has been brilliant to share this experience with my dad, but it is now time to move on and play at the highest level possible.” 

Callum’s departure coincides with club captain Brad Roscoe’s decision to embark on a new challenge. 

The central defender will also be leaving the club after four years, in which he had a two-year stint as captain. 

Speaking on his departure, Brad said: 

“Thank you for the last four years! I’ve loved every minute of representing a special club with amazing people involved from top to bottom. 

“I’d like to wish the manager and the lads all the best, the club is in great hands.” 

Despite the disappointment of two talented players moving on, Hyde United fans can be delighted with the fact that forward Jack Redshaw has committed his future to the club. 

It was announced last Friday that the winger has agreed to stay with The Tigers until 2026. 

Jack was crucial in Hyde’s push for the play-offs last season and was the club’s top scorer for the campaign. 

He also picked up the Player’s Player of the Season award at last month’s awards ceremony. 

Speaking on his decision to extend his contract, Jack said: 

“I’ve loved my time here so far, it’s been brilliant, and I’m delighted to have extended for another two years. 

“We’ve obviously fallen short of the play-offs twice now but hopefully we can go one step further next season.” 

It has also been announced that Jack will be taking over as club captain next season following Brad Roscoe’s departure, which he is delighted with: 

“Brad has been brilliant for us and he will be a massive loss, but the armband has obviously become available and the gaffer has given me the opportunity to take it, so I’m really pleased. 

“I’m someone who leads by example rather than being vocal and I’ve got a lot of experience which I can hopefully pass onto some of the younger players.”
