PREVIEW: Basford United v Stalybridge Celtic

Stalybridge Celtic could hand a debut to a new signing when returning to league action at Basford United on Monday night.

Celtic were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage after a 2-0 home defeat by Marine on Saturday afternoon.

Simon Haworth's side will be looking to get back on track in the Northern Premier Division for what will be their first league game in September.

There could be a new face in the team, too, following the signing of Harry Freedman from FC Halifax Town earlier on Monday. The 18-year-old, who could play in midfield or as a striker, is the son of former Crystal Palace and Bolton manager Dougie and is available for selection.

Since their 1-0 defeat at Mickleover Sports on the opening day, Stalybridge have taken four points from their subsequent two away league outings - winning 2-0 at local rivals Ashton United and drawing 0-0 at Buxton.

As a result of their recent FA Cup exploits, they have since slipped down to 12th in the table but have games in hand on all of the teams above them.

They make the trip to Nottingham to take on a Basford side who have had a positive start to the campaign.

Steve Chettle's men are sixth in the table, having taken 10 points from their opening six league matches, and are four points behind leaders Matlock Town.

Kick-off at Greenwich Avenue is at 7:45pm.
