Plenty of cricket action in double weekender

There was plenty of action this week in the Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League, sponsored by Complete Weed Control, on a scorching double weekender that saw both League and Cup fixtures play out.

Dinting CC vs Whaley Bridge CC.

Dinting won the toss and, facing a diminished Whaley team, elected to bat first. Dinting made a devastating 364-4 from 45 overs, with Ryan Nixon making 150 and Thomas Henry George on 106 runs. Whaley’s Al Wightman worked hard for his 3-52 from 6 overs. In response, Whaley Bridge could only make 67 all out from 21.1 overs, Henry Holden making a gallant 45 runs. Dinting’s Thomas Pugh and Alfie Joy got 3 wickets each. Dinting won by 297 runs. [Dinting 20 points. Whaley Bridge 2 points]

Dove Holes CC vs Old Glossop CC

Old Glossop won the toss and elected to bat first. Old Glossop made 99 all out from 43 overs, Callan Kean top scoring on 27 runs. Dove’s Dan Waterhouse took a cracking 5-23 from 12 overs (3 maidens). In response, Dove Holes made 100-8 from 35.1 overs, the top score going to Shaun Cartledge on 39 runs. Old Glossop’s bowlers made them work hard for runs, with Captain Rob Adderley claiming 5-36 from 9.1 overs. Dove Holes won by 2 wickets. [Dove Holes 17 points. Old Glossop 4 points]

Newton CC vs Hazel Grove CC

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. Newton made 69 all out from 28.3 overs, with Atif Noor making the top score of 30 runs. Hazel Grove’s Dominic Nunn was on fire, taking a storming 6-30 from 12 overs (5 maidens). In response, Hazel Grove made 73-2 from just 16.3 overs, with Charlie Higson claiming 31 not out to give Hazel Grove the win by 8 wickets. [Newton 1 point. Hazel Grove 19 points]

Pott Shrigley CC vs Hayfield CC

Hayfield won the toss and elected to field first, putting the home side into bat. Pott Shrigley made 79 all out from 28.3 overs, Jon Buckley with the top score of 19 runs. Hayfield’s Jack Cook took 4-28 off 9 overs (2 maidens). In response, Hayfield made 80-2 from 22.2 overs, opener Harry Wyatt seeing the match out on 36 not out. Hayfield took a comfortable win by 8 wickets. [Pott Shrigley 1 point. Hayfield 19 point]

Stalybridge CC vs New Mills CC

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. New Mills made 125 all out from 30.2 overs, with Todd Hamlet making 39 runs. Stalybridge bowlers Zeeshan Naseer (3-15) and Jamie Brownhill (3-29) took 3 wickets each.  In response, Stalybridge stretched to 112 all out from 31.3 overs, the runs largely down to Zeeshan Naseer on a solid 64, the only batsman in double figures. New Mills’ bowling attack came from Daniel Holmes (4-25), Oliver Kilner (3-29) and Sam Kilner (3-32) giving New Mills the win by 13 runs. [Stalybridge 6 points. New Mills 17 points]

Tintwistle CC vs Broadbottom CC

Tintwistle won the toss and elected to field first, putting Broadbottom into bat. Broadbottom could only manage 44 all out from 20.3 overs, with Seb Croft the only batsman in double figures on 16 runs. Tinsle’s Daniel Weston took an impressive 5-17 from 10 overs (4 maidens). In response, Tintwistle were after an early finish, making 46-2 from just 13.4 overs. Matthew Robinson top scored with 17 runs, the overall score aided by 12 wides. Broady’s Tayyeb Gull took both wickets (2-18). Tintwistle won by 8 wickets. [Tintwistle 19 points. Broadbottom 1 point]

First round matches were played on Sunday 26th May.  Bissenden Trophy - 8 teams made it through to the next round – Hazel Grove CC, Pott Shrigley CC, Broadbottom CC, Dove Holes CC, Whaley Bridge CC, Tintwistle CC, Old Glossop CC, Hayfield CC.  Hawke Trophy – 8 teams made it through to the next round – High Lane CC, Hazel Grove CC, Newton CC, Old Glossop CC, Tintwistle CC, Dinting CC, New Mills CC, Dove Holes CC.
