Oldham Rugby League Club can confirm that their assistant coach Brendan Sheridan is now out of intensive care after battling coronavirus in hospital for the past two weeks.
The 40-year-old former Batley Bulldogs and Sheffield Eagles player, and former head coach at Dewsbury Celtic, is now in a recovery unit.
Said Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton: "The last couple of weeks have been very worrying but hopefully Shez is now over the worst.
"He faces a long road to full recovery but in true Shez spirit he is fighting this awful virus and he and his family have been touched by the support he has had from everyone at the Roughyeds and from the wider rugby league family.
"Next time we applaud the NHS and other key workers it would be nice if we did it a bit harder to show our appreciation for those who are looking after Shez while also remembering those who have been less fortunate."
