No fans, no problem

There may have been no fans inside the Butchers Arms over the weekend, but that didn’t stop Droylsden from making a perfect start to their 2026/27 NWCFL Premier Division campaign. 

A single first half strike from Nellson Van was enough for Dave Pace’s side to see off AFC Liverpool, in the first of two fixtures set to be played behind closed doors. 

The win comes after the Bloods were charged by the FA relating to unsavoury incidents during last season’s play-off final win over Maghull and were ordered to play three competitive fixtures in a closed environment, with the third being suspended for 12 months. 

Droylsden’s subsequent appeal was rejected, meaning Tuesday’s home clash with South Liverpool (August 4) will also be played without supporters present. 

Pace’s side will welcome fans back to the Butchers Arms on Tuesday August 18 for their meeting with FC Isle of Man.
