Mossley runner completes second 100-mile race for homelessness charity

Mossley resident and ultra-runner Victoria Carter has completed her second 100-mile race in support of homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley.

Victoria completed the Lakeland 100 race on Sunday 25 July after 40 hours of non-stop running through day and night. The Lakeland 100 ‘Ultra Tour of the Lake District’ is a long-distance trail race across public bridleways and footpaths, covering 6,300m of ascent.

Through her latest fundraising challenge, Victoria has so far raised almost £500 for Emmaus Mossley, a charity supporting 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting.

On completing the Lakeland 100 challenge, Victoria said: “I can't believe I finished this race! I wasn't going to, twice. It’s only the support of other runners, my friends and family, that got me through. What an amazing adventure! Please can someone get me a beer?”

The Lakeland 100 route starts in Coniston and heads South before completing a clockwise loop which takes in the Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale and Buttermere before arriving in Keswick. From here the route heads to Matterdale and continues over to Haweswater before returning via Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater to the finish at Coniston.

This is the second time Victoria has run 100 miles in support of Emmaus Mossley. In 2019, Victoria completed The Handmoors 110 challenge and fundraised £2,500 for the charity.

Alison Hill, Director at Emmaus Mossley, said: “I don't think we've got a more committed and determined supporter than Vicky! Completing yet another 100-mile running challenge is a fantastic achievement and we’re honoured that Vicky chose to support Emmaus Mossley once again.

“Massive thanks to Vicky for her continued generous support and to everyone who has made a donation or given their assistance to Vicky’s latest long-distance challenge.”
