Midweek football round-up: Celtic win 10-goal thriller

After Saturday's FA Cup exit at the hands of Chester, Stalybridge Celtic bounced back in emphatic fashion on Tuesday with a comprehensive 6-4 win at Trafford.

The visitors virtually had the game wrapped up at half time thanks to a Ruben Jerome hat trick, but the hosts would pull one back just after the break.

Jerome then curled in his fourth of the night before the hosts once again cut the deficit to two.

The in-form Jerome then capped off a once in a lifetime performance with a stunning overhead kick to make it five.

Celtic weren’t done there though, with Ellis Horan firing in a sixth with eight minutes to go before two late Trafford goals made the scoreline a touch more respectable.

Elsewhere, Hyde United followed up Saturday's 2-0 win at home to Whitby Town with a win at Rushall Olympic by the same margin.

The Tigers returned from the long trip to the Midlands with all three points thanks to a second half brace from captain Jack Redshaw.

Meanwhile, their NPL Premier counterparts Ashton United earned a point at Warrington Rylands, and were perhaps unlucky not to come away with more.

Jason Gilchrist opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, turning home on the rebound after Darius Osei's original effort was saved before former Robin Ben Hardcastle levelled from the spot.

Despite a flurry of second half chances, Steve Cunningham's side were unable to turn a point into three.

Finally, Glossop North End fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Prestwich Heys.

The visitors took the lead early on before GNE levelled through an own goal on the stroke of half-time, but Bryson Appleton's 49th minute strike was enough to see the away side through.
