Match Report: Stockport Town FC 1-1 Droylsden FC

Credit: Derek Lloyd

It seemed as though Droylsden were on course for another defeat on Saturday at the Stockport Sports Village, but with seconds left the Bloods found an equaliser through AJ Warburton.

The first half provided plenty of free-flowing football from both sides that was end-to-end at times. However, there were no goals to show for either team at halftime.

Droylsden had their chances, after 18 minutes Fuad Kasali’s header drifted agonisingly wide. And George West went close on two occasions, one effort strayed off target and one just before the break struck the woodwork.

The hosts took the lead just shy of the hour mark through Dan McLaughlin. His header came after a good period for Droylsden who threatened Stockport’s goal.

Droylsden pushed but it looked as though they were on course for a fifth successive league defeat, especially with Stockport’s keeper Josh Schofield in fine form.

That was until the 96th minute when AJ Warburton rose highest at the back post, sending a looping header back where it came from to snatch a point.

A good point for Dave Pace’s side on the day against a side that currently sits third in the league. Droylsden may be just above the relegation spot, but they still have several games in hand and one or two good results could put them in a more comfortable position.
