Match Report: Droylsden 2-0 Barnton AFC

Droylsden moved into the promotion places after a 2-0 win against Bartnton on Tuesday night.

A quick flurry of goals in the first half was enough to secure all three points at the Bitchers Arms Ground.

The Bloods started on the front foot, with AJ Warburton hitting the crossbar before Fuad Kasali also had a good opportunity to open the scoring. Although Barnton had chances of themselves but were also unable to break the deadlock.

Then in the 26th minute, Fuad Kasali profited from a mix-up in the Barnton defence to open the scoring. Droylsden didn’t have to wait long to double their lead, with Nellson Van’s shot rebounding back to him to score his 10th goal of the season.

Kasali almost put Droylsden three goals up before the break after he spun the defender but forced a good save out of goalkeeper Patrick McLoughlin.

Barnton was much improved in the second half, creating several chances after the break. Thankfully Jordan Hadlow was called upon on several occasions to great effect to keep the Bloods clean sheet intact.

Dave Pace’s side has now moved up into fifth place in the league table, seven points behind Sandbach United with a game in hand still to play. Droylsden is now where they aspired to be, and the real test now will be maintaining or improving upon their league position.

The Bloods also have three games in hand on the two teams in sixth and seventh place, meaning they are in a strong position going into the business end of the season.
