Lilywhites Land Victory In Final Away Game

NPL West: Glossop North End 0-2 Mossley

Mossley claimed the three points in what marked their final away game of the season. 

With an unchanged line up from Saturday’s draw against Widnes, Mossley were positive from the off and took the lead inside four minutes. A lofted ball forward down the left channel was controlled by Jack Banister who outpaced his marker before planting a firm shot past Glossop custodian Harry Allen from the edge of the box.

Mossley dominated the early exchanges but the home side had a chance when Devon Matthews was penalised for a push that saw Glossop Drew Lowe requiring treatment after he crashed into the fence surround. The ball into the box was headed over the bar and Glossop offered little as an attacking force thereafter with the defence well marshalled by the outstanding centre half pair of Matthews and Steve Mason.

Banister, skipper Keogh and new boy Louie Potts caused plenty of problems for the home defence but they held firm to half time.

A one goal lead is never a safe position to be in and Mossley needed a big second half to secure the points and that they did was much down to hard graft. The Lilywhites dominated midfield leaving Glossop to feed off scraps.

After Glossop had failed with an early pot shot the second half belonged to Mossley.

Butterworth fired over after Potts’ flick set him up. Allen saved well twice in quick succession from Potts headers and Potts was again in action but his shot flew over the bar after good work by Hickman to set him up.

Banister was leading his marker on a merry dance on the left wing and a number of troublesome balls into the box caused some panicked defending by the home side.

Andreas Bianga replaced Potts and soon after Connor Morris replaced Fawns as Mossley looked to consolidate the points and with eight minutes remaining the Lilywhites did just that. The outstanding Kane Hickman played a great one-two with Keogh before racing into the left side of the Glossop box and tucking a great shot beyond Allen for a quality Mossley goal against one of his former clubs.

The goal put the game to bed and the Lilywhites returned to Tameside with the three points.
